The pictures just look better when they're taken from a low perspective. For these photos, I was actually sitting on my "duff" while hand holding my 300mm f/2.8 Nikon lens. And yes, this lens is a very heavy lens to hand hold even while sitting down.
This photo was shot using Nikon's 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens attached to the D300. This was shot in manual mode at aperture f/2.8, shutter speed 1/640, ISO 2000, and +0.7 exposure bias. Noise Ninja was used to clean up the high ISO noise as part of my Aperture software.
I recently shot a practice session for a local youth diving club. For this photo I was on top of the 5 meter platform. I snapped this shot just as this diver began his routine.
Stadium light, nighttime photography can cause your camera to produce some strange image colors. The best way to prevent this is to adjust your camera's white balance setting when the automatic setting just doesn't get the job done. The first image below was shot using the "Flash" white balance setting on my Nikon D300. Although the colors produced were better than when using the "Automatic" setting, there's still a yellow color cast within the image.
The second image below was shot using the white balance manual setting at 4000K on the D300. Notice how this photo contains more natural colors. The player's skin tone seem appropriate. Also check out the color of the turf field. It's a green field, and it looks green. but it's yellow-ish in this photo.
Don't let a little rain stop you from capturing the sports photos you want or need to get. There are a lot of solutions to keep your camera equipment dry. I noticed this solution used by a photographer at a recent soccer match I attended.
Everything in sports isn't serious and tough. Remember to capture the fun with your photography as well.
Well....almost never. I usually don't like to capture backs and rear ends. I think sports photos are more intriguing when the emotion of facial expressions are also included in the photographic story. I think this photo might be one those exceptions, however.
The conversion to black & white (using Apple's Aperture software), combined with the two players locked arm-in-arm chasing the ball, along with the long shadow created by the setting sun, give this photo a little bit of artistic quality.
This was captured outside of "The Big House" at the University of Michigan (Michigan's football stadium). It highlights Michigan's football championships.
